She served as president of the Salt Lake Council of Women 1938-4- 0 and in 1953 was named to its "Hall of Fame." In 1942 she was Salvage Chair-man for the War Production Lake City; Claudius E., Provo land Payson; Mrs. Robert F. (Es-ter) Sneddon Sacramento, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; three brothers, Claud Starley, Tempe, Arizona; jOrville and Thomas Starley, Fill-more. Funeral Held Saturday for Bertha Stevenson Funeral services were held Sat-urda- y in Cottonwood LD.S. Ward for Bertha Starley Stevenson, pro-minent Salt Lake City matron, who died early Thursday morning at her home, 5160 Hyland Drive, following- - an illness of several months, at the age of 72 years. She was the wife of Dr. Lester Allanson Stevenson, retired physi-cian and surgeon and former Chief of Staff at LD.S. Hospital. . She was born in Fillmore, June 16, 1883, the daughter of John and Margaret Wade Starley. Her early education was obtain-ed in Fillmore public schools. Lat-er attending the Brigham Young Academy, she received a normal degree in 1901 and taught school in Millward County. . Following her marriage to Dr. Stevenson, Dec. 17, 1902, in Salt Lake City, she studied art and music at the University of Utah. In 1929 she attended the Univer-sity of Vienna in Austria with her husband, who was doing post gra-duate work there. An ardent civic worker, Mrs. Stevenson was president of the Salt Lake County Medical Auxi-liary in 1938, and the State Medi- - Board in the state and served un-til it was dissolved at the close of World War II. Mrs. Stevenson was a member of the L.D.S. Church and active in YWMIA, holding the following positions: President of Waterloo Ward, 1915-1- 9, Granite Stake Board member 1919-2- 3, president Univer-sity Ward 1924-2- 7, President of En-sign Stake 1927-3- 6. During this time she helped to organize what later became the Gleaner Girls in the MIA. In con-nection with this work, she the book, "The Right Thing at the Right Time." She al-so wrote articles for the Improve-ment Era and other Church pub-lications. In 1932 she was made an honor-ary member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social fraternity, serving later as presidents of it Mothers Club. Survivors include her husband, four sons and four daughter, Dr. Vernon, Dr. Elbert, Dr. Victor, Mrs. Betty S. Allen, Mrs. Reed E. (Maureen) Holt, Mrs. Walter J.
