Show informer former well VV known roosevelt citizen dies suddenly at cedar city active worker in L D S church and civic affairs in duchesne co drav dies suddenly Sudden lv of heart trouble early christmas morning the communities or of roosevelt and cedar city were greatly saddened upon receipt of the word of tire the death of ernest H burgess who has been active in chuich and civic affairs of both cities he had been slightly I 1 ill the proceeding proceed e evening but was wis e in seemingly good health however christmas morning he died suddenly of a heart attack at the time of his death he was county attorney of iron COUK ty a member of tho the hish priests quo quorum a member of tle the paio wan stake sunday school board sec secretary y of the cedar city chamber of commerce sir mr burgess was born in pine valley january 3 1884 ile ha attended the public schools of pine valley the branch normal agricultural college of cedar city and graduated from the law school of the university of utah in 1906 in 1902 he tilled filled an honorable mission to ger germany many for the L D S church ile he married donna V miles in 1907 moving to ely nevada from which city lie he came to the uintah basin in 1912 where lie he resided until 1928 at this time he moed to cedar city where he was living at the time of his death ile he Is survived by his widow and seven sons and daughters william miles ernest martin merlin karl leonard leon ird brent lucretia ruth and lurrine burgess of cedar city five brothers and sisters george E burgess of american fork willard burgess of ogden mrs lucy hendricks of gridley calif mrs airs ruth gardner and mrs alice gardner of 0 lund nevada miles and ernest the two oldest sons are students at the university of utah but were home for the holidays at the be t time of his death lucretia is a student at the branch agricultural college arid and the other children are attending the high school land nd the t be district schools 0 of that place while in roosevelt ernest has held many positions in church and civic affairs being secretary of the roosevelt realty co company a director of the tha roosevelt bank county attorney city attorney bishop of the roosevelt alist ward and many positions in the auxiliary organizations of 0 the church and the priesthood funeral services were held at the second ward chapel in cedar city sunday afternoon at two bishop E al corry presiding A beautiful funeral march on the pipe organ was played while the body and mourners entered the chapel A male quartet sang come unto me prayer was offered by mr gardner mr air and mrs airs manning sang a vocal duet president palmer of the parowan carowan stake and mr leigh spoke of their acquaintance with mr budgess and their appreciation of his sterling qualities leroy halverson played a violin soto solo dreaming Drea mins edwards burgess bishop of the alpine ward and nephew of ernest expressed elpi eased appie clation ol of his relationship relation relations bip to him and said lie he knew of no other more devoted father than h hi was john E biscombe Vis combe nibe clerk of the roosevelt stake sang a vocal selection 1 I know that my redeemer lives ray E dillman bishop of the roosevelt ward and brother in law spoke ol of ibis honesty land and integrity and also expressed mr air burgess gibat eat desire for the advancement of i his children and his gibat gi eat struggle to give them a chance dishop bishop corry expressed his appreciation of the acquaintance of the family and the very fine attitude they had in educational and religious affairs the pall bearers were members of the high priests quorum of which mr air burgess was a member the remains were taken to the city cemetery where bishop bagley ba gley of the third ward dedicated the grave the profusion of beautiful flowers both from roosevelt and cedar city bespoke the esteem in which the family are held in both communities mr and mrs airs ray E dillman mr air and mrs jesse R allen alien mr air and mrs homer P edwards maree manee edwards and john E of roosevelt attended the funeral services and mr air and mrs airs dillman remained a few days to assist in getting mr air burgess affairs in chape |
