Show SECOND ANNUAL SPRING CLEANUP FRIDAY FRID AY AND AN D SATURDAY S al 1 burd AV APRIL AND 2nd and CITY CEMETERY improvement WORK TO START SOON plans under way to level off all graves and plant entire plot into lawn roosevelt commercial club and city council will secure water tor for lawns and trees in order to beautify fv grounds mayor clarence 1 I johnson called a meeting of those people who are interested in the improvement of 0 the city cemetery tor for tuesday evening at which but a small representation resen tation was present the proposed work was explained by mayor johnson and by etheridge Etherl dge john son chairman of the committee from the roosevelt commercial club who have taken the responsibility sivility lity of securing a water supply tor for the cemetery the expressions of those present was that they heartily approved the plans for the leveling of the mounds and the planting of lawns the committee are arranging to furnish steel markers for the graves in place of the present head bead boards the most of 0 which are in very bad condition these markers will be paid for by the lot owners it Is planned to secure the service of a sexton so that care may be given all lots and it will be arranged so that this service will be available to the lot owners at a nominal andua tee fee which will not be over ten dollars the streets and alleyways will be graded and graveled in order to accomplish this work it will be necessary that the people come out and help to this end it has been decided to set aside thursday april ath as cemetery improvement day on which date all available help will be asked to be on hand at the cemetery equipped with the necessary implements committees to oversee the various parts of the work will be appointed by mayor johnson it is especially desired that lot owners or their relatives relative be present so that the identity of marked may be established and at the same time to help in the preserving of the identity of all the graves at that time an effort will be made to secure a record of those who have been entered Int ered which will become a permanent record on tile file in the city offices |
