Show plans A DI aa ns being I 1 laid by U B 1 I C officials to interest outsiders in convention plans tor for the fifth annual uintah basin industrial convention to be held at ft duchesne 3 utah on august 3 4 and 5 1027 1927 ars are bo be muning to take shape the executive committee held its third meeting of the season on friday evening march 25 1927 for those who are not familiar with the growth and history ot of this convention the U B 1 I C as it Is familiarly known a few words of oe explanation may not be amiss the first uintah basin industrial convention was held in 1923 it was planned and conducted a as an educational and cultural gathering in the nature of a farmers encampment for the people of the uintah basin fort duehesne duchesne military headquarters in the uintah basin when soldiers were necessary to keep peace between whites and indians was selected as the proper spot on which to hold this meeting fine old trees provide shade the uintah river Is 13 only a few rods from thi th campus then the fort la is very nearly the center of population of if the basin and the present headquarters of the indian borvice as well for the first meeting and those that have followed too tor for that matter instructors and lecturers were secured from the universities and colleges of the state needless to say most of the instruction was along farming and related unes lines for the uintah basin Is mainly agricultural dally daily attendance has frequently run as high as 6 people at the same time the general program Is made up of addresses uy by uch puch men as the Gover governor lLor of the state presidents of the bl big educational institutions congressmen con greUl nen officials of departments of our federal government and specialists in scientific fields the indians help to provide entertainment with tribal ceremonies dances and parades but many indians are farmers and craftsmen and can make a good showing on that kind of exhibits too mr air tidwell Tl dwell superintendent ot of the uintah and ouray agency reported at the last meeting ot of the executive committee that win wash as chairman john austo john duncan and dick wash would make up the indian committee T these es e men are leaders among their fe fellow ilow indians and farmers and of note as well they will see that the indians part of the V U 13 1 I C Is well taken care of |
