Show PIONEER FARMER OF CARBON COUNTY DIES AT AGE OF 77 john T rowley 77 years ot of age pioneer farmer and stock raiser of spring glen carbon county died at his home in that place Saturday jan mr rowley was born in scotland and came to this country with his father in 1848 after living tor for some time in fillmore utah he moved to carbon county in 1891 and helped to settle spring glen the operation ot of several charcoal kilns kalns just south ot of the blue cut a mile or so this side of 0 spring glen was the first business engaged in by mr air rowley upon his arrival here there he burned the brick for tho the first school house at spring glen and took charge of its erection he then took up the business ot of farming and stock raising the occupation he followed until his death mr rowley was the first farmer in carbon county to take up dry farming on his ranch a few miles below the lower storrs ranch he be successfully raised various crops year alter after year by the dry farming method funeral services were held nt at spring glen monday feb 2 at with A W horsley of price president of carbon stake in charge speakers at the funeral which which was wa largely attended by friends and relatives of the deceased from all parts of the county and several from the uintah basin were carl 11 mar marcusen cus W F olson and A W hors hora ley the L D S chi r oi of price led by ashley bartlett furnished music for the ceremony interment was in spring glen aeme cemetery ery mr rowleys Row leys acquaints acquaintance no in the county was very wide and he was beloved by all who knew him he Is survived by eight sons and tour daughters of whom the following live in carbon county david S i silas john if irvin goorge george A and mrs airs william jones several relatives from the uintah basin were present at the services |
