Show THE GRAZING LAW A number of inquiries have come coine into the local forest office recently with regards to the amount and class of stock that will be allowed to I 1 run un on tho the national forests without permission and for the benefit of those who have not had the opportunity of a complete analysis of this condition the regulation is 1 herein brein quoted and analyzed reg G 5 all persons must inest secure permits before grazing any stock L in a national forest except for the few head in actual use by prospectors campers and travelers or saddle pack and work animals actually used in connection with permitted operations erat ions on the nat national onal F orests forests or work animals animals not exceeding a total of 10 head owned and andin anden in use by bona fide settlers residing in or near a national forest require no permit analysis no stock may maybe be grazed without a permit except or work animals which are in in actual use any settler whether he live inside a national forest or adjacent ther thereto etoi owning inglen ten head or less of stock which are neither ilch or work animals will be required to apply for permit and pay a grazing fee while on the other hand any settler living in or near a national forest owning any number of stock may graze ten head or less of or stock free of charge or work animals means cows or horses that lire are used in connection with permitted operations on the national forests or by farmers or settlers living near enough to the national forest that those cows or horses which are necessary for the support of the farmers family and the performance for mance of his farm work can ban ba grazed on a portion of the forest while in actual use on the farm it 1 is S not thought I 1 logical agic al 0 or r rea reasonable S ona b le that a man living 10 to 20 miles from the forest boundary can avail himself of this privilege because he could not consistently drive his stock to and from the forest every day but in meritorious cases where any farmer can reasonably drive his stock to feed on the rational national forest lands during the time ume they are not in use the distance from the forest boundary makes no particular difference so long as the territory is dependent on the use of that national F orest forest or the range there in n WM M ANDERSON forest supervisor |
