Wisdom in Spending Ute Money Advised An effort is being' made by the officials of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Agency and members mem-bers of the Ute Tribal committee to encourage members of the Ute Indian Tribe, who will benefit from the $1000 per capita distribution dis-tribution expected in a relatively relative-ly short time, to pursue an intelligent in-telligent and consistent procedure proced-ure in spending their inheritance. inheri-tance. Recently a bulletin went out to the Ute people over the signature sig-nature of Supt Forrest R. Stone in which he explained some of the ideas that are being explain ed to the tribe that are being advocated ad-vocated by ttiose who will dispense dis-pense the money. Tuesday and Wednesday of this week members mem-bers of the tribe who are associated as-sociated closely with the Ute Tribal committee have made contacts to the various areas where the Indian people live, explaining to them the suggestions sugges-tions being made by the agency and committee. Following is a statement taken from the bulletin issued by Mr. Stone: "In order to receive his money after it is put in his account, each person must go to the ag-1 ency and withdraw any or all of his funds. To avoid the great confusion, crowding at the Agency Ag-ency with everybody trying to draw out his money at once, and to prevent the disruption of the normal operation of business at the agency, some definite information in-formation will be required as to your wishes, and this information infor-mation will need to be secured from you in your homes, or in your communities. "Each Indian will be asked by a representative of the Tribal Business Committee how he wishes his payment to be made. He may either ask to draw all of his money out, or only a part of it, leaving the rest at the Agency Ag-ency where he can draw the balance bal-ance whenever he needs it. "We hope that no one will take money out of his account until he is fully prepared to take full responsibility for the handling of such funds, and wi: hope that you will consider plans for starting bank accounts of your own in commercial banks. In event that you do not have any definite plans as to the use of your money the agency ag-ency accounts are being made available to you as a place of safekeeping.' |
