Show Cougars Take On Wasatch Friday; Beat Carbon 32-0 Union High School's Gold and Black Cougars will get a thorough testing Friday when they journey to Heber City for their third football game in the comparatively hew grid schedule. sched-ule. They will meet an ambitious ambi-tious Wasatch High School aggregation ag-gregation which is coached by Marion Tree. Game time is 1:30 on the Wasps' own field. Commenting on the offensive and defensive power his team has shown in beating Payson, 40-6 and Carbon High School's junior varsity, 32-0, Coach Sar-kis Sar-kis Arslanian was hopeful, but not over-confident about this big pre-season contest with a team that last week dumped Judge Memorial of Salt Lake City 13-0, after the Catholic school had routed Park City the week before 33-0. In defeating Carbon last Thursday afternoon on the local lo-cal field, the Cougars showed flashes of brilliance, both offensively of-fensively and on the defense. A big line that charged, and some potent secondary defensive defen-sive power kept a rugged Carbon Car-bon team bottled up all day, making it next to impossible for the Dinosaurs to gain any yardage yard-age on straight football. Dale Womaek and Packy Fenn led the Cougars, offensively, as they took an early 13-0 lead. They ripped off yard after yard on various plays. Fenn took a lateral lat-eral pass in the first couple of minutes and romped over for the first score, and Womack went off center on a beautiful running play for the second TD. He kicked the extra point. The entire line performed in fine fashion with the work of Terry Daniels , being especially outstanding as this husky guard drove through the Dino line to smear play after play. Coach Arslanian's quarterbacks, "Smiley" "Smil-ey" Denver and Clayton Huber, again looked mighty sharp in the signal calling capacities. Arslanian cleared his bench again with every kid getting a chance to play a part of the game. , Unless another pre - season game is lined up in the next few days, Friday's game at Wasatch will complete the Cougars' Cou-gars' pre-season schedule and they will wait for the opening game with Uintah High at Vernal Ver-nal on Oct. 1. The following week. Oct. 8, Moab comes here. |
