Show Deal till: Roosevelt, Utah January 17, 1946' Well I'm glad you finally de-1 cided to go back home. It seems to me that after nearly four years in the Navy vou should have had your fill of traveling. Oh yes, I know, you just get itchy feet, and feel as though you must be on the move. The next time you can't sit still it might be a pretty good idea for you to drop down this way where people stay put. The weather here in the Basin remains delightful; so good in fact that the big Christmas tree that was put up for the holiday season should be taking root by now. It's still standing up on the corner looking a bit moth-eaten, but then you know it requires considerable time for an evergreen ever-green to take root, and after all our Community Christmas Tree has only had its trunk buried in the ground for a month. Sam Sprouse says he hopes it takes root so he won't have to go- back to the hills next December for a new one. Now if that tree fails to take root, then the Christmas lights, and the big stars that still form an arch above our city streets arc going to appear slightly out of place next July. You know, Bill, Christmas lights always look lost and lonesome without the company of a flourishing, green Christmas tree. Horace Allred came back from Denver sporting a "brand new Stetson. It's a swell loking hat, just Horace's style; nothing fancy of doggy only plain hat. I noticed two or three of the boys eyeing it with envy last night. Don't be surprised if Jack Zimmerman tries to trade his perennial checkered cap with the ear flaps for Horace's new topper. With my head feeling like an over developed squash as the result of a cold, I'm in no condition condi-tion to write more than a few lines today, Bill. I don't know where I picked up this miserable cold, but since John Baumgaer-tel Baumgaer-tel still isn't using his coat, perhaps per-haps I can arrange to borrow it for a few days in an attempt to overcome the chills that are having hav-ing a lot of fun running up and down my back-bone. For now I'll say so-long, and I'll be looking for a letter from you this week. As ever, Unc. P. S. I'm going up to inspect the Community Christmas tree to see if it's taking root. |
