Show Riders Trounce Altamont 47-7 In Opening Game By Juanita Gleaion and Kent Scholes The Roosevelt Rough Riders opened the football season last Thursday with a win over the Altamont Longhorns. The Rough Riders started the fireworks by kicking to Altamont, Alta-mont, who took the ball on Roosevelt's Roos-evelt's 20 yard line and fumbled. fum-bled. A recovery was made by Roosevelt and the pigskin was carried to Altamont's 3-yard line where it was fumbled again and recovered oy me i-iongnorns. They carried the ball to the 20 yard line where it was fumbled and recovered by Roosevelt. On the next play Snyder received re-ceived a pass and carried it over for the first touch down. On tho try for an extra point Curley Clark passed to McKenna who crossed the line. At the close of the quarter Roosevelt was in possession of the ball on the Altamont 10-yard 10-yard line. Roosevelt opened with a pass from Alexander to Benson, who raced to a score. On the extra point try the pass was incomplete. incom-plete. Three additional touchdowns touch-downs were made by Roosevelt during the quarter: by Galloway who ran the ball 25 yards to cross the line with Snyder making mak-ing the extra point; by Benson, who also carried the ball 25 yards for a score that was added to by a successful extra point try with Clark carrying the ball: and by McKenna, who received a pass from Alexander to score with Benson making the extra point. Altamont's lone score came in the third quarter when, on a complete pass, the .Longhorns moved down to the 2-yard line and were successful in pushing the ball over on the following play. On a running play Altamont Alta-mont was successful in making the extra point. A Roosevelt I penalty put the ball on the I Rough Rider 1-yard line where the Roosevelt wall held. In the waning minutes of the third quarter Benson ran the ball over for another Roosevelt score. Throughout the 4th quarter the ball was bantered back and forth from team to team with Roosevelt finally taking it over for a final score on a pass from Gerald Dye to Nickell. The game ended with a score of 47 to 7 for the Rough Riders. Roosevelt's starting line - up included Ray Nielson and Earl McKenna at ends; Lyn Miller at center; Don Snyder and Howard Galloway at half, and Curley Clark at quarter. |
