Show USDA Buys 11V2 Million Pounds Of Domestic Honey The U. S. Department of Agriculture Ag-riculture announces that 11,592,-600 11,592,-600 pounds of domestically produced pro-duced honey of 1948 production were bought under a a purchase program announced by the Department De-partment April 1, 1949. All honey hon-ey purchased will be used in school lunch and institutional feeding programs. More than 18 million pounds were offered. Prices paid to beekeepers and packers varied appreciably, depending de-pending upon whether the honey was white, extra light amber, light amber, or buckwheat in color. However, the average price was 14.266 cents per pound for processed and packed honey in 5-lb. cans, f. o. b. shipping point. Averag-e price per pound by varieties was: white, 14.675c; extra ex-tra light amber, 14.319c; light amber, 13.368c; and buckwheat, 11.4 cents. Under the Department's Depart-ment's purchasing program, vendors ven-dors other than beekeepers were required to certify that they had' paid beekeepers not less than 8.5c per pound net for buckwheat; buck-wheat; 9c per pound net for light amber; 10c per pound net for extra light amber, and 10.5c per pound net for white extracted honey. |
