Show Roosevelt Six Downed By Dixie Showing the results of a seasons sea-sons coacning, and taKing advantage ad-vantage of extra weigru and speea, tne Dixie Flyers irom St. Geurfeo, toppled the Roosevelt Kojgn Riders uy a score ol Sb-o in tne inter-regional game last Friday. The score at the end of the first, quarter stood G O in favor of Hoosevelt. Bob Benson, fighting center lor the Rough Riders, blocked a Dixie punt which was retrieved by Gingell and Roosevelt Roos-evelt went over ior tne first touch down. But speed and weight showed tneir worth in the next tnree quarters and Dixie built its score up to 3G before the final gun. It is no disgrace to be beaten by a team as well coached as Dixie's. In this instance it was like throwing in an extra man against the Roosevelt six, for the Riders have been without a regular reg-ular coach throughout the entire en-tire season. The local boys won the district championship on their own, with the welcome help of Marion Baumgaertel and Dick Owen, former Roosevelt high school gridders, who were given the coaching assignement at the Rider lair after the season was well on its way. The Rough Riders are still a championship team, win, lose or draw. |
