Show "SCRATCH" VOTE DIUIDES OFFICES IN DUCHESNE COUNTY ELECTION Veterans Ticket Deciding Factor In Three Contests; Voters Support Murdock, Granger DUCHESNE county voters threw ' their weight solidly behind be-hind Senator Abe Murdock. Congressman Con-gressman Walter K. Granger and Justice of the Supreme Court Martin Larsen, but scratched heavily to elect H. L. Allred (R) of Roosevelt to the state legislature, legisla-ture, and to divide the county offices evenly between Republicans Republi-cans and Democrats in Tuesday's election. With a total vote exceeding 2400, the Republican side of the ballot in the race for county offices of-fices gave the GOP the 4-year commissioner, the assessor, the recorder and the county attorney. attor-ney. While the Democrats swept a 2-year commissioner, sheriff, clerk treasurer and county surveyor sur-veyor into office. The Roosevelt precinct with two voting districts exhibiting considerable interest in the election elec-tion counted 539 ballots to lead the county in voting. Duchesne precinct, also embracing two districts, dis-tricts, was second with a recorded record-ed vote of 387. ALTHOUGH the Veterans ticket which qualified late in the season failed to garner any of the county offices for which candidates were entered, presumably presum-ably cinched the election for James Lloyd (R), candidate for 4-year commissioner; Floyd Case (D), incumbent, for 2-year commissioner, com-missioner, and James Bacon (R), candidate for assessor. In the 4-year 4-year commissioner race, Lloyd won over his Democratic opponent; oppon-ent; Levi Anderton by 210 votes; Ronald Farnsworth, Veteran's candidate polled 299 votes, all or a portion of which could have turned the election in favor of Anderton. For 2-year commissioner Floyd Case received 1153 votes to Nathan Jones, the Republican candidate's 1030, a difference of 123 ballots. The Veterans candidate. candi-date. Stanley McDonald, captured captur-ed 237 votes, enough to have given Case a wider margin or to have elected Jones. James Bacon (R) candidate for assessor, disposed of his opponent, oppon-ent, Edward W. Crosby by a slim majority of 76. With 240' votes cast in favor of Elray Larsen, running on the Veteran's ticket, the picture today would have been colored differently had less than three-fourths of Larsen's recorded ballots been marked for Crosby. The Veterans ticket definitely def-initely caused a split in the voting vot-ing for these three offices. FERN MOFFITT (R), successful success-ful candidate for the office of recorder, was high candidate on the Republican side with an affirmative af-firmative vote of 1575. H. L. Allred (R), representative-elect to the state legislature, was second sec-ond high in the GOP column with a favorable 1306. On the Democratic side, Porter Por-ter Merrill topped the list with 1641 votes as against his opponent's, oppon-ent's, Veteran Stephen Wilcken, 217. Arzy Mitchell, newly elected elect-ed sheriff, ran second with 1388 ballots cast in his favor. All eight of the Constitutional Amendments wore approved by Duchesne county voters, with Amendments 3 and 4 receiving an inconspicuous number of negative votes. (For complete tabulation by precincts see Page 6).
