Show Man Made Snow Falls From Cloud Scientists are constantly unlocking un-locking the tightly scaled doors of the universe, and revealing to an amazed world some of the secrets that nature has kept to herself for eons. The scientific mind has taken steps to harness lightning, learned the fundamentals fundamen-tals of the mighty atom, and now comes word that it has forced a cloud to drop snow. A recent press dispatch carried an account of a three mile long cloud which was changed into snow at a 14,000 foot elevation. A small plane flying over the cloud, dispensed six pounds of dry ice pellets in the heavy bank of mist, and within two minutes observers noted that streamers of snow began to pour from the base of the cloud. The phenomenon was visible from a distance of several miles. Practical application of the project includes the possibility of snow being produced in regions reg-ions where there is a lack of precipitation or where it is desired de-sired to have snow rather than let it pile up in urban areas. The day may not be far off. scientists say,' before man will attempt to steer snow clouds from sections where snow is not desired, but, they continue, the beginning has only been made. In time, if the advantages are believed to be worth the effort, it may be possible to make snow j out of clouds whenever man wants a snowfall. 1 |
