Show Flight Training Begins For G Is At Local Airport Five new students were enrolled enroll-ed in the G. I. flight training program this week now being conducted by the Roosevelt Flying Fly-ing Service. The new enrollees are Max Owen, Ab Harris, Bob Saiher, Bill Sutteer, Lon Logan and Willis Lowry. The first classes in ground training were held Monday and Wednesday evenings of this week at the Roosevelt high school under the direction of J. R. Gillespie. . At Monday's class, instructions were given on orientation; or-ientation; On Wednesday Raymond Ray-mond Wiscombe insxueted in civil civ-il air regulations and problems pertaining to flying. Joe Mower, fight instructor for the Roosevelt Flying Service, explained the flight pattern used at the Roosevelt Roose-velt airport. To facilitate instruction and adhere to a regular schedule, it was agreed at the ground schoo1 classes that any student missing two ground, classes would be grounded until the work had been made up. This work will consist of 4 hours ground in j struction and 5 hours of flight training a week. In order to accomodate all veterans in the new program, flight training will be given be tween the hours of 6 a. m. and 6 p. m., leaving evenings for ground work. Monday evenings have been set aside for ground instruction, but regulations require re-quire that two evenings each week be devoted to this phase of the program. A second night during each week for ground instruction has not been decided upon, but will be announced later. Ex-G. I.s who are interested in enrolling for flight training are advised to have their eligibility eligibil-ity papers and an application for airman certificates fully executed execut-ed before they will be considered by the school. A physical examination exam-ination is also required prior tc enrollment. The training program which covers from 12 to 16 weeks will be conducted by Joe W. Mower and Raymond Wiscombe, fully qualified CAA flight instructors Training will be given in two new Aeronca champions, and a PT-17. Prespective students may call Joe Mower or Bennie Schmiett for appointments. Under the new program Mer-lyn Mer-lyn Reynolds was the first G. I. to solo at Roosevelt. |
