Show Power Company Had King-Sized Troubles During Saturday's Storm Lightning Started Fire; Wind Blew Poles And Wires Down King-sized troubles beset the Roosevelt branch of the Uintah Power and Light company during last Saturday's wind and rainstorm. rain-storm. The Roosevelt fire -department was called when the telephone transformer -at thaj power company's diesel station north of town caught fire. J ... A bolt of lightning had set fire to a power pole, four miles south of Neola, just below the crossarms. The top of the pole burned, off , dumping the three top wires, carrying 44,000 volts, onto the telephone wires strung several feet below the power lines. The windstorm blew four poles to the ground above Neola. The hydroelectric plant in Uinta I canyon was cut off. causing Roosevelt to be without power until the diesel station could be cut in. The diesel supplied Roosevelt Roos-evelt with power until midnight while the wires leading to the hydro plant were being repaired. Neola, Hayden. and Whiterocks White-rocks were without power during dur-ing that time. The wind treated trees and poles alike in Uinta canyon, according ac-cording to Ken Aycock, power company branch manager. Several Sev-eral trees were blown flat during' dur-ing' Saturday afternoon's miniature min-iature gale. Early Sunday morning Whiterocks White-rocks reported that it still had no power. The repair crew went out and found that a tree branch had fallen on the line between Hayden and Whiterocks. Since repairs had .to be made across the river, the town had no power pow-er until Sunday afternoon. |
