Show 'Classes Sn Polio I Care To Be Held August 26-28 Mrs. John Bourne, Duchesne chesne county chairman of the National Foundation for Infan-''le Infan-''le Paralysis, has announced '-.t loefns prr classes in home nursing technique will be conducted at the Roosevelt ward hall Monday, Tuesday and Wed--i.-.sday. August 20 o 28. inolus-:ve. inolus-:ve. beginning at 12:30 each day. These classes will be of par-?i-vlar interest to all mothers of honl ae children throughout the county, and as man3' as possible pos-sible are urged to attend. Pol'omvlitis is on the increase :n Utah with nine cases reported for the week of August 16. a-o'-n'-.rd with sovn cases last week and eis?ht cases for thp me period last year. Seven of 1ho nine cases occurred among children ranging in age from 4 to 16 years; two cases were r'uHs. One case has been reported re-ported from Uintah county, ono p-om Uth countv. two from Salt Lake county, fou.r from Salt Lake C'tv and one case from nrovo. Only one hospital in the state is equipped to care for-polio patients. pa-tients. Should it become overcrowded over-crowded it will necessitate caring car-ing for patients in their own homes. Classes for the poliomyelitis training course will be conducted conduct-ed as follows: Monday, "Symptoms "Symp-toms and Earlv Diagnosis," and "Public Health Resources for Care of Polio Patients," Dr. John Bourne; demonstration of general nursing care of the polio patient, Elva Stewart. On Tuesday Tues-day Dr R. V. Larsen will discuss dis-cuss "Treatment of Polio Patient Pat-ient During Convalescence." The lecture will cover physio- therapy, appliances and surgery. Tt will be followed bv a demonstration demon-stration of proper isolation technique tech-nique with suggestions for good nursing procedure and proper nn4rition. conducted by Elva Stewart. Dr. L. Miles will lecture I on "Present Theories in the Treatment of Polio," at Wednesday's Wednes-day's class and Mrs. Stewart will demonstrate the hot pack method meth-od of treatment. |
