Judging started on the junior department steers with both the 4-H Club members and FFA members exhibiting under the I "Danish" system of judging in which the cattle are merely graded grad-ed as "choice" and "good." Steers from Montana, Idaho, Utah. Wyoming Wy-oming and Nevada comoeted. Many of these steers moved right . on into the open classes in which the Hereford competition was by far the stiffest. Bar 13 Ranch, Sheridan, Wyo , drew the first blue ribbon in the lightweight division on a typey, lew-set, thick Comprest steer. McDonald liked the Winterton steer in the medium-weight di-l vision and picked an entry of Joe Ferlic. Burley, Idaho, for top of the light heavyweight class. The Ferlic steer was bred by. Arthur Pearce of Malad, Idaho.! Next to him in class stood a mellow, deep-fleshed, growthy steer shown by Ellen Orton, Elk Mountain, Wyo. This steer was sired by a John W. Runner bull from Saratoga, Wyo. The Orion girl did score in the next class with both a first and second, but when it came to the Hereford championship, Dee Winterton had the top. Bar 13 easily won the group of three steers, with Ellen Orton second. |
