Show Organization Of GJintafc Basin Ski Club Announced Viewing the Uintah Basin as a possible center for winter sports, ski enthusiasts of Roosevelt, Roose-velt, under the direction of Bert Gardner, started ground work this week for the organization of a Basin ski club. Maintaining that the Uintah Basin offers excellent ex-cellent possibilities for the development de-velopment of winter sports, the organizers of the ski club stated that their objectives will be to promote the popularity of skiing, It is generally known that winter win-ter sports have been sadly lacking lack-ing in the Uintah Basin. With this in mind, Gardner has sounded sound-ed a call for active participation by interested parties in the organization or-ganization of the ski club. A meeting for the purpose of electing elect-ing officers and drawing up bylaws by-laws will be announced in the immediate future. Meanwhile all persons interested in the promo-1 tion of Uintan tsasin winier sports are invited to contact Mr. Gardner at the Uintah Sportsman Sports-man Center in Roosevelt. The preliminary plans of the embryo ski group, call for the construction of a ski tow on one of two possible sites. In all probability pro-bability tne ski runs and tows will be located north of Roosevelt Roose-velt in the fqot hills of the Uinta mountains. Areas to be considered consider-ed will embrace all requirements necesary for down hill racing, jumping, slalom and cross country coun-try skiing. Since the early 1930's skiing has jumped to a cherished spot on the list of sports. It began its meteoric rise to popularity in 1929 when Utah ski enthusiasts brought such internationally famous fa-mous ski riders as Alf Engen and the late Einar Fredbo to Utah to compete in the first Inter-mountain Inter-mountain meets. |
