The machine I was in got two hits knocking out 2 engines when the pilot gave word to bail out, however, the inter-phone communication system had been knocked out and I did not get the word, shortly after I was hit by a shell from a big cannon completely ripping off my right leg. I then managed to crawl to the front of the ship and found out that I was alone, all others had bailed out, I managed to get to the hatch and jump, on the way down I lost consciousness, when I came too the next day, I was in a small French hospital. They told me that I had landed in a field where some Frenchmen French-men were working who took me to the hospital. As soon as I was able to be moved I was placed in a German prison camp and held there for 17 months". The Sergeant Ser-geant pleaded for citizens to purchase pur-chase war bonds in order to shorten the end of the war. A dance was also given at the Legion Barracks after the show. |
