Show ' Nebraska Bridge Named for Noted Indian Chief Nebraska City, Neb. Chief Wau-bonsie, Wau-bonsie, for whom the new bridge spanning the Missouri river here has been named, was the last great chief of the Pottawattnmles, an Indian tribe which first inhabited the territory now Included in Indiana In-diana and the vicinity of the southern south-ern shore of Lake Michigan. Later the tribe moved to the territory ter-ritory now comprising Iowa and northern Missouri, and still later to the state of Kansas, according to an authentic record of the life of Chief Wauhonsle, compiled by tht Waubonsle Bridge compnny. The record was gained through months of research work In co-operation with the superintendent of documents docu-ments and the Smithsonian institution institu-tion at Washington. |
