Show encouraged by outlook favorable reports resolutions adopted at state convention Poultry men of sevier county sound found encouragement in la favorable v diable market conditions and the fine financial standing of the state cooperative at the annual convention of the utah poultry producers cooperative association held last week in salt lake city the sevier county unit was represented by delegations from rich clcil field afield monroe elsinore glenwood and aurora samuel leviten of new york city director of eastern sales for the association reported that utah and idaho poultry products are leading the field in eastern markets both in quality and volume H he said he believed the price of eggs would go up slightly in the next three or four months the need for maintaining pro and in some instances expanding the industry to meet market demands and hold overhead costs at grading plants at a minimum was urged an audit report showed that the association lias total assets of and current liabilities of only in connection with these reports it is of interest to note that egg production decreased 20 per cent in sevier county during the past year tear according to qua quantities handled at the local grading plant although a profitable year for poul thymen has brou brought ht about renewed interest and orders for chicks and turkeys from the local hatchery show a heavy increase as compared with last year A few program changes gave new interest to the state gathering one session was conducted by future farmers of america and one by women of the cooperative taking part in the session was mrs airs R D buchanan of richfield who gave a talk on record keeping mrs ransom herring and abild son jack of elsinore entertained with a novelty act the association elected horace S nokes of riverton president and reelected clyde C edmonds of salt lake city secretary and general manager serving on the resolutions committee from this section was D H of richfield a liol holdover dover director in the state organization animation aniza tion mr air was especially in favor of the resolutions requiring congressional approval of reciprocal trade treaties and recommendation that congress require labor unions to incorporate as industry is incorporated so the unions can be held responsible for their acts highlights of resolutions approved at the final session of the three day aay convention which attracted poultry men from all parts of utah and southern idaho included L 1 A stand against legislation which contemplates discriminatory or punitive taxes designed to destroy or unduly obstruct any channels of distribution 2 demand that federal and state legislation and appropriations of funds give as much attention lon to marketing and distribution as to production 3 request for legislation requiring that all reciprocal trade treat les ies of the united states be made subject to congressional approval and ratification 4 A stand for free flow of farm products and against repeal of the long and short haul clause of the interstate commerce act 5 endorsement of federal legislation which would establish a maximum interest rate of 3 per cent on federal farm mortgages and on loans to irrigation and drainage districts 6 endorsement of house bill 94 providing state control to check the spread of disease among poultry flocks 7 requests for agricultural e exemption x from the hours provision of the wage and hour law and recommendation that no state wage and hour law lav be passed not fully in accord with the national law 8 request that congress pass legislation requiring local unions or federations to incorporate so they can be held legally responsible for acts and performance of contracts 9 demand for an adequate tariff wa wall 11 against importation of eggs or r egg meats from foreign countries 10 request that the interstate commerce commission base the freight cost structure on current values of railroad properties and not on the basis of original cost the resolution regarding unions was passed following a talk by mr air edmonds in which he vigorously attacked irresponsible unions experience has demonstrated the resolution said that in negotiation with local labor unions a contract is definitely one sided because of the fact that local unions though fully officered are arc not corporate bodies and therefore can not be held responsible for their acts or for the performance of their part of a contract we therefore call upon theaon the congress of the united states to pass such legislation as will require all local unions or federations to in corporate so that the corporate entity may be held accountable for its actions |
