Show C of C president honored kenneth isbell receives outstanding citizen award kenneth isbell president of the richfield junior chamber of commerce was named Rich fields outstanding young citizen for 1938 at a banquet sponsored by that organization monday mr Is bells selection for the distinguished service award conferred by the united states junior chamber of commerce was made by mayor john L sevy jr don E kenney richfield lions club president dr W E poulson sevier stake president and mrs guy lewis a vice president of the richfield study club basis for the selection fixed by the national organization calls for outstanding civic service and achievement personal character and ability but does not require that the honor be conferred on a J C C member presentation of the award a gold key bearing the official in signa of the united states junior chamber of commerce was made by mayor john L sevy jr attebe at the banquet held monday evening in the johnston hotel at which 15 new members were introduced and an informal program and business discussion were in order under leadership of mr isbell the local J C C which is not yet a year old directed a memorable parade and other events last july in celebration of Rich fields seven ty fifth anniversary they sponsored Rich fields first residential christmas lighting contest in december they arranged an appreciation party for the richfield girls girl s drum and bugle corps winners of first place in the national convention of the american legion in los angeles last fall fail they planted 50 trees around the city natatorium grounds and have given support to various projects in cooperation with other civic organizations they are now boiking for establishment lish ment of a blood bank for transfusions and other health and safety measures as well as entering the entertainment line with rehearsals hear in order for a minstrel in the interest inte iest of crime control and betterment of conditions for the underprivileged mr isbell personally interviewed john deering convicted murderer who sought at the last to amend for his life of crime by directing youth away from the pitfalls into which he had and by coil contributing tribu ting his eyes to the blind and his body for scientific ic mr isbell along with newspaper men witnessed the execution of deering at the utah state prison last october the convicted mans letter to mr air isbell was published in newspapers and high schools from several western states wrote to mr isbell for copies of it through more than nine months of organization mr isbell has not missed a meeting of the junior chamber of commerce A postal service clerk in richfield for 10 years mr isbell is vice vic president of the utah state federe federation of post office clerks president of local 27 under the national federation of postal clerks and a member of the U S civil service board of examiners at richfield he is a member at large of the associated socia ted civic clubs of southern utah a former scoutmaster and is president of the fourth wat ward d Y M ina M I 1 A mr isbell is a home owner married and has twin daughters six years of age |
