Show death clainie well known teacher funeral services held sunday for miss sophia goldbranson leaving a record of nearly 40 years of service as a teacher in the se sevier vier district schools miss ellen sophia goldbranson 62 passed away thursday at her hoice home in richfield death releasing her from a lingering illness with which she had been afflicted the past fa four ur years funeral services held sunday afternoon in the richfield third ward vard chapel gave eloquent tribute to her as a teacher and friend officers of the richfield study club in which miss goldbranson bad continued membership throughout her illness carried the profusion 0 of f beautiful flowers mrs golden R Mue buchanan banan played a prelude as the procession entered the cha chapel p ea shall we meet beyond the river rive r was sung by a double mixed quartet directed by mrs otto L anderson andersen and composed of mrs anderson andersen mrs stanley johnson mrs roy christensen mrs ruby nielson R 0 jackman clarence littlewood tle wood donald hansen and roy christensen accompanied by mrs buchanan L P hansen offered the invocation following which the double quartet sang jesus lover of my soul introduced by bishop alex jensen who presided at the services speakers were mrs frank R pace jas B morrison dr otto L anderson mrs airs R D buchanan alten christensen phelon malouf and N J bates A former student associate teacher and friend mrs airs pace expressed appreciation of miss goldbranson for her kindness and firmness for her ability to teach joy in learning and added that the most valuable lessons she had taught ta were lessons in life speaking of miss devotion in teaching the children of others she characterized hers as the perr feet service because it was so unselfish zel fish mr morrison who first became acquainted with the goldbranson family when they so kindly entertained missionaries at their home in florence neb while he served there in 1889 gave a biographical sketch of miss goldbranson telling of her early achievements in in education while he be was a school official and of her advancement to the position of principal of the richfield elementary school the things she taught and anchored in the hearts of her students will be felt as an influence in generations to come he said dr anderson who attended her during her illness spoke of her courage and patience he stated that the devotion of her sister during her long illness and the unity of response in service of other mi members embers of the family was deserving of unbounded praise miss thoroughness her high ideals and upright character demonstrated in her contributions to club studies were emphasized pha sized by mrs R D buchanan in expressing the appreciation of the richfield study club alten christensen a former student stated that her work as a teacher carried an influence that was eternal and viewed for her eternal advancement stating that she forgot herself into immortality her ability to give understanding and individual direction to her students her placement of ideals above factual teaching were praised by phelon Il malouf elalouf alouf another former student who said she taught me the value of knowledge and truth and that happiness is not material wealth but the harmonious union of the heart and the soul and the mind her perfect penmanship mans bip he said was characteristic of her ability to give attention to the big things and the small things in closing he read a t tribute rl I 1 sent by his brother raymond a graduate student at the U of TJ N J bates spoke as a neighbor of the goldbranson family for a third of a century and called attention to the character of the young P people eople taking part in the services as demonstrative of miss success as a teacher and of the large attendance as an expression of the love and respect she had secured in the community there was he said a loyalty to duty and a light in her life that pave gave tier her the ability to attend to the task at hand band and yet inspire to greater accomplishments she believed in the teachings of christ and lived them day by day he said and added it seems to me the death that was saddest for her was the death that came when she wa avs 13 made to realize that her activities in life were at an end and that death now was but the release of an ambitious spirit from a body that tethered it and kept it from going on tn in concluding remarks bishop jorisen said of her sister mrs mra schroder cr who cared for her during four years of illness that she was an angel anel of mercy who has done active kenneth isbell jake johnston carroll payne jos B johnson giant christensen and arnold jensen miss goldbranson was born june 4 1876 at manti a daughter of lars and ellen sophia christensen goldbranson when two years of age she moved with her parents to sacramento california but b u t returned to manti a year later in 1883 she moved with her parents to florence now omaha neb crossing the plains by team in 1891 the family returned to utah and settled in richfield where she had since resided she was educated at the florence school the sevier stake academy and the normal school in missouri from which she was graduated in 1901 later she continued continue her education at summer sessions at the brigham young university 1 the university of utah the university of california and the palmer school of penmanship in portland beginning in 1894 she taught school two years each at sigurd salina and aurora being principal at the latter school she came to the richfield schools in 1901 and continued to teach here until 1933 serving as principal of the elementary grades during nine years of that time she was secretary of the sevier district teachers association for a number of years she had been an active member of the L D S church surviving is a sister mrs airs louise schroder of salt lake city other close relatives are a brother in law T R schroder husband of louise a
