Show weed control ex F nerin tents aye studied white top and wild morning glory plots dewed in two counties wild morning glory eradication experiments will vill be studied today at experimental plots between manti and ephraim on the second field day directed for farmers by L W in charge of weed eradication studies in sevier al and id sanpete counties the eradication experiments are now in their second year under direction of the experiment station of the U S A C and the state board of agriculture results will vill be compiled and findings released this fall said mr some farmers from sanpete and piute diute counties joined in the recent field day ae at the white top experimental plots on a part of the airport at richfield and it is expected some of the sevier and piute diute men will vill witness the work today in sanpete county of interest at the field day here were the discussions by professor J C hogenson extension agronomist from the S A C with respect to losses bosses due to weeds and the explanation by mr of the underground root system of white top how extensive are the studies was demonstrated by plots under cultivation at different intervals some on which repeated plowing and some on which alternate plow ng and cult lations had been used some dry aw and some irrigated some having early cultivation and some being cultivated at the bloo bloom m stage on some plots were noted t the he effect of sodium chlo chlorate rate used at the rate of two pounds of the salt and four pounds of the salt respectively to the square rod in both powder and soray form this was shown on both dry and irrigated plots with applications in dav time and evening and at seven different stages of plant growth other chemicals being tested for eradicating the weed are atla cide and carbon various grasses planted in heavy stands of white top to permit study of their ability to replace the weed are of considerable interest the grasses include smooth brome reed canary perennial rye western wheat tall meadow oat and mix buies of some of these grasses with alfalfa and sweet clover many are establishing themselves readily and appear to be gaining on the white top |
