Show civic clubs protest tariff cut A resolution opposing any downward revision of tariffs with great britain and other foreign countries on utah products particularly ores and wools and related products of the farms ranges and mines whether raw or processed thursday was sent by air mail to the utah congressional delegation by the associated civic clubs of southern utah the resolution bore the signatures of james it sargent president and secretary ray E carr previously telegrams requesting the washington officials to give serious consideration to the proposal had been sent the resola i tion was passed unanimously by 11 the civic club board of directors director in a meeting at cedar city saturday after pointing out that open opening up the way for placing utah p producers 0 and manufacturers in competition 0 with cheap foreign labor or conditions would seriously handicap local enterprises the resolution read resolved that we oppose with every facility at our command the bonsu consumption mation of any trade agreement with great britain or any other foreign power ar whereby tariff schedules now in effect would be lowered upon wool woolen products upon other products 0 of f the farms upon copper zinc and lead or other products of the mine and related manufactured products whereby the Anie american lican farmer livestock man mine operator manufacturer or busin business cs 9 man would be placed in financial jeopardy or compelled to cease his opera operations eions or lower the wages 0 f his em aloyes |
