Show teachers institute open to ru alic will feature exhibits and demonstrations of cultural training parents and school patrons are invited and urged to attend an institute of elementary teachers of the sevier school district to be held saturday march 5 from 10 a m to 12 noon at the richfield high school featuring demonstrations of cultural training offered in n the schools an exhibit of art work from different schools is being arranged miss melba hamson of the richfield school will speak on creative art and its to social science demonstrations and the teachers in charge will be presented as follows singing redmond fifth and sixth grade students directed by miss aliss viola brienholt salina fifth and sixth grades directed by miss ellen A demonstration of giving music appreciation courses by use of phonograph records monroe fifth grade directed by miss larue goold rhythm studies by a rhythm band from the sigurd first and second grades directed by miss fae fac brown and a rhythm band from the central second and third grades directed by miss dean stevenson folk dancing richfield fifth grade directed by miss devota miflin kocl social al dancing monroe fourth grade directed by miss melba Erl erickson cion choral reading richfield first grade directed by miss veline poppleton student officers of eight eig ht schools meet at salina sixty one students and advisers from monroe richfield marysvale Marys vale circleville Cir cleville delta hinckley fillmore and salina high schools attended the convention of the As student government officers of utah zone 18 held at salina on february 24 in the second ward chapel principal speakers were superintendent A J ashman A AL Al maughan aughan principal of richfield high school and miss thelma jackson of the richfield reaper rea P r the meeting was in charge of don D 0 johnson of richfield president of the organization superintendent ashman adviser of the group said that to continue its usefulness the organization orga niza tion should reach out into broader fields and take larger responsibilities such as preparing to take responsibility in the selection of the high school curriculum mr maughan recently returned from a tour of the los angeles schools told of his observations of the schools and student government there miss jackson gave student editors and journalists some advice on the writing and editing of a school paper luncheon prepared and served by francis christensen instructor of home economics and the girls of the tenth grade home economics class was served to the delegates in the home economics dining room A program arranged by janice gribble consisting of a solo by donna prows a reading by de von larsen a vocal selection by a double trio of sophomore girls and a reading by dorothy day was given during the luncheon the convention reassembled at the chapel and the problem of awards was discussed the meeting mec ting adjourned at one thirty the next meeting will be held in early may at delta high school |
