Show grouary council initial meet endorses purchase of utah hatchery products other matters aired representatives of the poultry industry and associated business firms from all sections of the state attended the initial convention of the utah state poultry council held january 27 at the brigham young university in connection with leadership week in attendance as a representative of the sevier valley poultry producers association was D H nah it ten burg manager of the associations hatchery the poultry council is composed of all agencies connected with the poultry industry including hatcheries and breeders bleeders bre eders marketing organizations feed manufacturing plants and distributors and supplies distributors the meeting was in charge of herbert beyers manager of the northwestern turkey growers association and president of the council arrangements were in charge of professor H grant ivons avons of the university staff who is vice president of the council the main subject of discussion was arrangements for the international poultry congress to be held in cleveland ohio in july 1939 at which some sixty foreign countries will be represented through poultry exhibits and talks by poultry exhibitors it was decided by those present that utah should be well represented and advertised through displays at this congress A business meeting and executive session was held at the roberts hotel at a luncheon and during the afternoon unanimous approval was given a recommendation to ask congress to increase the on egg products principally ci dried begs being imported into the united states it was also decided to go on record urging congress to retain amendments to the national farm bill now before congress congress to prohibit the use of marginal lands to be taken out of production under the terms of the bill for poultry or livestock production it was pointed out that without this provision cotton lands in the south to be placed on a non basis might be converted to uses that would cause an increased poultry or livestock production it was brought out at the convention that some was sent into outside states for the purchase of baby chicks and turkey boults in competition to utah hatcheries last year the motion was made and unanimously passed that all agencies connected with the utah poultry council openly endorse the purchase of the products of utah hatcheries under the national poultry improvement plan sponsored by the utah hatchers catchers Hat chers and breeders bleeders Bre eders association sufficient insurance to the poultry men of this state is in effect that they will receive from utah producers only products equal or superior to those from outside states |
