Show cricket menace disappearing in fish lake forest I 1 the cricket menace in certain areas of the fish lake forest is rapidly rapid ly being brought under control two herds reported a year ago one in daniels canyon east cast of plateau and one on the barth end of glenwood mountain were evidently killed by the heavy snows of last winter because there has haa been no evidence of them found this year during the past two years there has been some trouble with crickets on the oak creek division and considerable work has haa been done by eradicating them in an enthusiastic poisoning program and by digging tren dies the crickets into the trenches ands and burning them with straw sa saturated with oil and gasoline because of this work of extermination no crickets arc to be found now on the oak creek division but ranger robbins recently reported one herd in the valley north of scipio he informed C A mattsson forest supervisor that approximately a thousand black crows are arc following these crickets and devouring them in a manner similar to that used by the seagulls that saved the crops in the early settlement of salt lake valley it appears that the lowly crow may now come into his own not only as a nger but also as an aid in exterminating crickets 1 which have threatened th the e tion of agricultural crops A man from scipio has taken a flock of turkeys to the infested area but i the crows have been working so fast the turkeys will soon have to find another menu |
