Show or STATE NAME TICKET AT C 0 N V E N dillman nominated for governor martines polls good vote republicans of utah named the following ticket at the republican republic state and congressional conventions held saturday in salt lake for governor ray E dillman roosevelt for congressman first district charles W dunn logan for congressman second district A V watkins orem for justice state supreme court el elias as hansen salt lake for secretary of state keith ogden for attorney general byron D anderson salt lake for auditor david K moffat salt lake for treasurer A edsel christensen mt ML pleasant for superintendent of public instruction st E E greenwood midvale v ale party officials presed expressed ex satisfaction with the ticket following the convention and the four other candidates for nomination for governor were generous in congratulations and in pledging support to dillman one of th the e surprises of the convention was waa the large vote vole polled polled on the first ballot by frank G martines of richfield who announced his bis candidacy for governor but a short time before the convention after other candidates had their supporters organized martines martine s received 1351 votes on the first ballot which gave dillman 38 christensen and kelly 89 the second ballot vote assured the bomin nomination aaion of dillman with votes cast in his favor mr martines released his home delegation to dillman on the second ballot but rec received aved 33 2 v votes otes himself D H christensen substantiated the general belief that he was the candidate in salt lake county by polling M 1 votes on the first ballot martines failed to break into the salt lake county delegation for a single vote making his total al all I 1 the more impressive mr martines was placed in nomination by geo jefferson of milford jonathan lloyd of richfield unannounced before the convention was placed in nomination by mr martines for the position of audi or and polled a heavy vote but not sufficient to defeat the announced candidate david K moffat of salt lake although some individual hopes were dashed all candidates accepted defeat gracefully and any suggestion of bitterness was avoided commenting on the gubernatorial nominee george W snyder national committeeman said mr dillman is an ideal candidate he understands the party principles and he understands the problems problem s of utah he knows that the state must be built up industrially t if taxes are to be lowered and he knows what to do to bring new industries into the state he was author of the dillman bill which provided for the great salt take fake to create a fresh water lake and in the state senate he has always been constructive in III the measures he supported he has as clear a conception of what utah needs as any man in the state |
