| Show TION WEEK TO BE 01 NOVEMBER 1117 11 17 the school and democracy is is general theme to be considered november 11 to 17 will mark the annual celebration of american education week it was sponsored originally by the national education association the otrice of education and the american legion such organizations as the american federation of labor the american association of university women the national congress of parents teachers associations the lions rotary and kiwanis clubs and many fraternal and business organizations are now cooperating in this significant annual celebration the week celebrates the founding of free schools as a significant ant achievement in the long struggle for the rights of the common over adult citizens in approximately communities took an active part part in the observance of american education week in 1934 the main theme for american education week this year is the school and democracy this theme was chosen to emphasize the need for the american people to be aware of the dangers that threaten self government in this country and the value of universal education in the maintenance of such government in addition to the main theme and such local problems as may demand attention the fol following lowin g topics have been suggested for the day to day discussions monday november 11 the school and the citizen tuesday november 12 the school and the state wednesday november 13 the school and the nation thursday november 14 the school and social change friday november 15 the school and country life saturday november 16 the school and recreation sunday november 17 education and the good life the schools of the sevier district according to superintendent A J ashman have been asked to observe the week in ways best adapted to conditions in the schools adhering in general to the topics outlined |
