A prime example is a one point win over East itn the margin of victory could e been much higher had View-IE View-IE ml been able to hit from the char-' char-' stripe. IHE ODDS caught up to the kes last week though as they ened the door for the Braves by ssing the front end of four diffe- ii one and one situations. This it around the Bountiful club ikaone point decision. Without a doubt those misses i us the win" offered a dejected ;:ng coch coach Ron Johansen, feel we beat them in just about I ay phase of the game, except ? foul shooting and it cost us." A technical foul was also cal led on a Viking player for voicing his opinion to one of the officials Kinnear hit the foul pitch and then Tim Izatt sank the technical. Bountiful Boun-tiful then took the ball out of bounds and Todd Allen quickly sank a 15 foot jumper and all of a sudden the Vikes were only up by four. "That six point play was a big one" Johansen offered in a gross understatement. "I'm not so sure that technical was warranted." HALL PRAISED his kids for taking tak-ing full advantage of the situation, "we still had to make the foul shots. We could have missed both of them and then missed the shot and only come away with two points, but the kids stuck the shots when we needed them." The fourth period was hectic for the full eight minutes with the biggest big-gest lead for either side being three points after the five minute mark. While Shane Thacker, Bill White and Bret Cloward were missing their foul shots at one end Steve Mihas, Todd Allen and Dave Critchley were hitting hoops at the other end to give the Braves a 55-53 lead with just under two minutes to play. Cloward hit a pair off foul pitches with just over one minute to play to knot the score and then the Braves went for the last shot. HALL HAD diagramed a play to go to Tim Izatt but the Vikes had him covered and Steve Mihas did the rest. "Steve did a terrific job of finding the open man under the bucket. We were looking to Tim but Viewmont knew it and had him covered pretty well. Some times high school kids will freeze up under that circumstance but Mihas didn't. Mihas got a perfect pass inside to Darren Dean who hit the hoop and was fouled. When Dean hit the charity shot giving the Braves a three point edge the Braves simply watched as Cloward got a cripple under the hoop at the buzzer. "THAT WAS a great game to watch" offered Hall, "Viewmont shot extremely well but they are a good ballclub." Izatt and Dean led the Braves with 13 points apiece with Critche-ly Critche-ly adding 1 1 while Cloward led all scorers with 16 for the Vikes. Bill White added 1 1 and Shane Thacker another 10 in a losing effort. Dean's two-pointer won the game for the Braves, now 4-1 in league play, tied with Davis for the lead. quick two minute span and this game was over. The spurt came with just two minutes to play in the first period and with the Davis crew up 12-4. Up to this point in time the Wildcats had played a man to man defense but then they went into a zone. ENTER ONE Casey Lloyd who loves to see a zone. The outstanding outstand-ing senior guard hit five in a row and when the buzzer sounded ending en-ding the first quarter the Darts were up 22-4. In the second period it was the outside-inside attack of the Darts that took control. Lloyd was hitting hit-ting everything from the parking lot while Scott Moon did the damage inside with some more of his exciting excit-ing play. "Davis is a fun team to watch, they have five guys who can shoot and run" offered one Wildcat Wild-cat fan. BEFORE THE night was over Lloyd had 26 points next to his name in the scorebook while Moon finished with 18. Both of these guys sat out the majority of the second half as Mike Gardner started to substitute freely midway through the third period. Mike Taylor also got in the double column with 15. Mike Creer had a good effort for the Cats pouring in a team high 17 points. Woods Cross got some good balanced scoring with Bryce Moore adding 15, Don Sorenson 12 with Taisi Avei and Todd Smith adding 1 1 each. However the Darts were just too much for the Cats who have a history of not playing well up on the Dart floor. THIS WEEK'S ACTION. This coming week offers some interesting matchups for the region clubs. Bountiful plays host to win-less win-less Woods Cross, Viewmont travels to Highland while Davis heads to East. ALTHOUGH the Braves are at 4-1 and the Cats are 0-5 this could be a great game. In their firt first meeting the Cats fought back from 20 points down to make a strong run at the Braves. This is by no means a gimme for the Braves. Viewmont has dropped their last two region games and Highland is coming off an embarrassing bombing bomb-ing to East. The Rams are always tough at home, ask Bountiful, but the Vikes are hungry to get another win. DAVIS COACH Mike Gardner has to be concerned with East after seeing what the Leopards did to Highland last week. East has talent and if they get hot, as they obviously obvious-ly did last week, they can beat anyone any-one in this league. |
