Show Donations Sought For Renovated Statute Of Liberty On Feb. 14, the Daughters of the American Revolution will honor the restoration efforts of the Statue of Liberty. THE DAR expresses its appreciation appre-ciation to the famous sculptor, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who designed the State of Liberty with the year 1876 in mind. However, the statue was not dedicated until October, 28, 1886, because the statue's sta-tue's pedestal, which was designed by Richard Morris Hunt, was not completed in the seventies. It was presented to the people of the "Etats-Unis d'Amerique" by the government of France in a Paris ceremony July 4, 1884, in recognition recogni-tion of ties first forged during the American Revolution, between France and the United States. Joseph Pulitzer, through his newspaper news-paper "The New York World," was successful in raising funds to complete the pedestal. The cornerstone corner-stone was laid August 5, 1884. THE STATUE of Liberty was shipped in 214 crates, sent from Paris to Liberty Island in New York Harbor. On the day the Statue Sta-tue of Liberty was unveiled, October Octo-ber 28, 1886, a million people lined the parade route in New York City. She is known as the famous Lady with a Lamp in New York Harbor as a beacon to all ships sailing in and out of the harbor. The total height of the statue and pedestal is 305'6".
