| Show elsinore pioneer dies sunday at age of 89 years mrs caroline nielson barney 89 passed away early sunday morning at the home of her son don barney of elsinore death resulting from causes incident to old age she was born may 20 1844 near the city of aalborg denmark she joined the L D S church in her native land and on april 15 1862 she set sail from hamburg for america in company with immigrants under the leadership of elder C A madsen of gunnison Gunn lson they landed in new york may 29 1862 continuing the journey by water to florence nebraska and from there by ox team to salt lake city arriving september 27 1862 mrs airs barney first located in spanish fork where she met and married benjamin franklin barney in december 1862 they moved to monroe where they lived until 1879 when they moved to elsinore wl which ach became the family home surviving are six sons david of montana edgar of idaho elias of joseph lucian don and moroni of elsinore two daughters mrs sarah anderton of salt lake and mrs stella anderton of monroe 65 grandchildren great grand children and two great great grandchildren funeral services were held tuesday afternoon in the elsinore ward chapel with bishop leon T madsen officiating speakers were J L staples and J I 1 L jensen of elsinore and jos A smith of monroe musical numbers included a selection bury me near the old home by a male quartet from monroe directed by thos ransom a vocal solo that wonderful mother of mine by mrs minnie sylves sylvester ter a vocal solo the silent voice by phil anderson and quartet selection by mrs D N mrs minnie sylvester D N and H J kotter hotter the invocation was by soren hermansen and the benediction by A 0 en gar burial took place in the monroe cemetery |
