On motion of Commissioner Howe, who is in charge of the department of roads, bridges and publio safety within the county, supported by chairman of the board Quinn, the entire personnel person-nel of the county. fire department located at Murray, was discharged discharg-ed last Friday. Twenty-eight men including the chief of the department depart-ment was removed and the same number of new1 men were appointed appoin-ted to take their places. A n.as.s' meeting was held at Murray Friday Fri-day night in protest to llie action of the commission. Commissioner ! Dahlquist, who voted against the! motion to change, was one of the speakers and protested the action of the majority members. It was charge! at the neeting I that the change was purely a political po-litical move, that there was no other cause assigned for the 'action 'ac-tion and that the move was without with-out precedent. It was claimed 6y those ati the meeting, that there was not a man with any experience whatever in fire fighting, amount the men appointed ap-pointed to serve in the department, depart-ment, TYiday. That the value of years of experience in manipulating manipulat-ing irhe aparatus, caring for and keeping up engines,, motors and equipment as well as fire fighting knowledge gained by the outgoing outgo-ing company, was lost to the county by' the action taken. Except to showing the sentiment senti-ment of the public, the meeiing Friday night was of no avail, but ninny, eWn of the staunch supporters sup-porters )f Commissioners Howe and Quinn, are questioning the wisdom of such an arbitrary' venture. |
