| Show beat this beet A rare oddity of nature has been attracting attention lately at the home of mr and mrs H S christensen last spring when mr christensen planted his big red mangle beets he evidently dropped a seed on the path leading to the garden and from the hard soil sprang a small plant which has now grown into a beet of enormous size it is estimated that about six or eight inches of root must extend into the ground and from where the beet leaves the ground to where the top starts the beet memi measures ures 28 inches it is eight or nine inches in diameter the agricultural class of the richfield high school went to look at it an and d estimated the w weight eight of the big beet at around 60 pounds but an expert sn in the line J W ross after thoroughly looking it over said it would weigh about 40 pounds |
