Show 0 MONROE I 1 by special correspondent I 1 0 young matron I 1 answers call A shock of grief and consternation fell upon the community when one of the respected and beloved matrons matrona mat rons caroline leigh collings 35 years of age wife of earl B collings ceilings passed away sunday coining after but a few days illness and intense suffering from blood poisoning A slight and almost unnoticeable sore on oil one of the fingers thought at first to be a small sliver but developed to be a segious case of blood poisoning cut short a useful and most sacrificing life T mrs collings was born and healed in cedar city her father dying when she was but 6 years of a age leaving a widow ind and several children ildren cli to make their way alone calel as she was known to her friends had a a aaion for an education walked her way through high school as she giene to womanhood and went through the B N C now 1 known as the B A C at cedar city she taught in tile the elemental v schools five years then attended the U of U and the U A C where she specialized in domestic science and ait and graduated with high honors she taught in the mon loc ioe high school also at spanish fork high school for 3 years and was supervisor of domestic science and ait in ill the nebo stake for 2 years after her marriage she with her husband settled in bonloe where she has to be a shining light on educational matters as well as an ardent chuich chach worker in the no north 11 waid recently she resigned as president of the Y L al 1 I A after sei sewing for two years she was also one of the class leaders of the relief society iler her death is doubly sad in as much as it is the third death in the leigh family in one month and the fourth in in six six months time her mother a sister and an 18 year old nephew all having passed away in cedar city in that short time funeral sel services vicea will he be held in the north ward church wednesday at t t births increase increate deaths decrease vital statistics for the year 1925 show an increase of 1 birth over the previous py evious year ac cording according to reports given given by registrar sarah bates there were gl births 25 males and 36 females against 60 births for 1924 the deaths registered show 7 males and 2 females with 6 bodies shipped in for burial and one shipped away as against 15 deaths death and 4 bodies shipped here for barrial in 1924 t daughters to give entertainment the daughters of the pioneers will give an entertainment friday afternoon and evening in the south ward church to pioneers both male and female over 60 years of age in the afternoon where they will be entertained with a good program and luncheon following the program will be given from the south ward and promises to be a treat to our worthy older people in the evening the ladies from the north ward will furnish the program which will be intermixed with games and dancing refreshments aill ill be sold and the general public from both wards is invited to attend local and personal mr air and mrs airs lionel were host and hostess to a jolly crowd of majied married people at their home friday evening A hot chicken supper was served mr and mrs darrel holt are leav ienir this week to reside in delta mrs charles fautin entertained at dinner sunday complimentary compliment ar y to mr and mrs bernard winget of nampa Nal lipa idalio idaho covers wele laid for eleven V J Moi Mol was a business visitor to salt lake last week miss bliss eliza baldwin entertained neighbors and friends at a house baity friday afternoon lunch was served mrs C A winget has returned home aiom salt lake having spent several ev eral weeks in a hospital ther she is is reported to be doing very nicely mr and mrs lewis higgins visited relatives in marysvale Marys Mary vale sunday bert belt dan washburn and marion cloward left early last week for zions canyon having obtained employment there miss bliss ruby paxton left sunday to spend several months month in salt lake miss stella meyers left thursday thursay for california to remain until spring mr and mrs senor and family of myton have spent a pleasant week with relatives here while here they were guests of mrs clara bertelsen and mrs V J mrs maude snow of jensen utah arrived here the latter part of the week to visit her mother mrs E M sorensen mrs erastus johnson left tuesday for salt lake where after a few gnys stay she will continue her way to her home in nampa idaho |
