four years 1918 1916 1920 1321 1921 and 1922 the demonstration proved very successful as the students were told and shown the five essentials in typewriting mr hossfield told the students that concentration was the primary requisite and that rhythm was wa also very important the third point was to keep the eyes on the copy from which they were typing fourth the position at the machine should be observed by the typist and finally the elimination ellmin atlon of lost motion which is wasted energy is necessary mr Hoss fields demonstration stimulated the whole school and especially the commercial students in one minute he typed words by repeating a short memorized sentence in other short tests his speed was remarkable he wa was accompanied by mr hall and J C representatives rep ita tives of the underwood typewriting T ype writing co they also visited the monroe and salina high schools annual red and blue ball surpasses those of previous years better than ever wat was the red and blue ball of 1926 it was at the anona friday march 5 an evening that will long iong be remembered socially financially and artistically as it out shines those of previous years the ariona anona was changed from a large empty hall to one filled with laughter and bewitching music everyone was thet there so the hall was i crowded to its capacity what a beautiful picture was presented as the daintily clad figures glided gracefully around the hall the japanese decorations were indeed new and attractive the lights ash shining ining through the gaily colored lan ian terns together with the tea gardens and japanese wishing bridge gave the spirit of the orient to everyone such was the social and artistic success of the evening everyone is sure that none was more fully paid for untiring efforts than was the red and blue ball committee kanab basketball team visits rich field on way to tournament kanab high schools basketball team en route to the state baska basketball ball tournament which is to be held in salt lake march 11 12 and 13 stopped off at richfield sunday and monday the boys held a light workout wo in the R H S gym and front from appearances they will make a good showing at the tournament there are four lettier letter men among the team and the other members seem to he be equally as good so the southern part of tho the state should be heard from again this year A third lyceum number the A C glee club will give giac the third lyceum number of the year according to the plans of the executive committee cominiti ce the only 01 dy lyceum number I 1 so far presented was the concert by the royal welsh Gle gleeden emen the B Y U play to be given march 20 will constitute the second lyceum number the glee club will follow and promises to be exceptional march 27 is the date set aside for this entertainment it H S year book entered in national contest entrance fee for the R H HS S yearbook in the art grafts crafts guilds na dional contest for annuals was sent in february twenty fourth so the K R H S yearbook is now entered in in the national contest As soon as the book is published it must lie be sent in in together with a financial statement signed by the faculty advisor showing the final financial status of the book there are seven different classes under it which the books are to be judged three classes aie for universities and colleges rating according to the student population three classes are for high schools classed according to student enrollment the seventh class is for any girls school A k large loving cup will be awarded to first second and third winners in each class to become the possession of the school for one year A school wi win ining two cups in succession or any three years is entitled to retain the cup permanently there will be a certificate of award given to ton tell schools in each class receiving honorable mention last year they inaugurated the system of sending a grade card to every school that entered its book in the contest so the staff could tell just where their book was weak neak and where it was strong the R H S yearbook staff is expected to win a prize but even though it the criticism it will receive will be very valuable to next years staff to help them to produce a prize winner inner decorations big feature at dance miss simons more than displayed her art talent in her plan of decorating in the anona for the red and blue ball the lights were covered with different colored japanese pagodas with nith the unique lettering of that people for a design all around the hall were pictures of huge dragons birds Imi lanterns terns houses and geisha girls the great japanese parasols at either end of the bridge came direct front from china town in san francisco so it was no wonder the atmosphere was so realistic at the lower end of the hall there was a bridge both sides of which were lined with various colored lanterns couples crossing over this bridge stopped near the center to wish vish then passed on to a darling little japanese tea garden where delicious punch was served to them by pretty japanese maidens the whole plan made it a veritable japan which everyone appreciated precia ted an den joyed to the utmost scholarship to be awarded mr Af maughan aughan received a letter from the snow college last week urging him to choose the student for the scholarship to that school as soon as possible one student is chosen from the senior class each year to go to the snow normal college having his entrance fees amounting to thirty six dollars paid by that school applications f for lo 10 this must be given to the faculty committee and the student will be chosen from among the applicants the winner of the scholarship will be announced at commencement annual school opera ready for presentation pickles a comic opera in three acts will vill be presented this week and next net for your mystification by bv the R H S the completed cast for the long ex pecked comedy has been entirely filled and the date for tile the production is set for march 12 anti and 15 at richfield opera house march 13 at ephraim the definite date has not as yet been settled for the production at monroe special scenery anti and costumes will be used in this thin production and a 1 I real thrill will be forthcoming when the curtain rises on each of the three scenes the opera will be accompanied by the R H S orchestra it is all under the direction of J L terry the high school music instructor I 1 spring football spring football has begun in the R H S and for a few weeks will be practiced at the high school all men who played football last fall are starting it again this spring along with numerous others who are getting in shape for tile the team net fall the practice will be good for those who have never played the game before and who are expecting to tryout for the team next year all of the suits have been issued to enthusiastic athletes of the school it is not kno known wn yet whether any games will be played with other schools of the division or not but it is hoped that there will be some nevertheless it will accustom the amateurs to the game so that they will be more fit to play on the gridiron next year institute held in R H S building teachers of sevier county attended their annual spring institute at the richfield high school last saturday the entire faculty of the snow normal college was present to give in instruction st in the various departments the instruction seemed to be exceptional in its value and was fully appreciated precia ted by the teachers in attendance in his speaking mr ashman summed up by saying they are fair square and honest in their profession that they helped the sevier teachers immensely by b Y their good g rousing talks and high ideals the meeting began at ten itom front ten to eleven a general assembly which was conducted by bv mr ashman was enjoyed the R H S glee girls furnished musical numbers joseph jenkins gave a short peppy talk that T seemed to start the day out right the better preparation of Te teachers achew was the subject thoroughly discussed by J lynian lyman smith after tile the assembly at eleven the teachers separated for departmental I 1 work vork where they received individual instruction in in their various fields at 1230 they went down do vit to the cafeteria where they were served with lunch i by the high school cafeteria girls then at one they went v ent back to their classes after which another general assembly was vas held beld deflators 3 and coach are active the delia mr nelson gave an illuminating talk on public speaking in general and juaa tuesday ay march 8 another on debating kenneth isbell was nw cho chosen senas as chairman of the deba debaters tors everyone is now working hard on the japanese problem will there be a tennis court in ill 1920 the year book left a balance of and with this money a tennis court fund was started starred each year students student clubs chis classes ses and executive committees have added to this sum until it is nearly large enough to tc build the long wanted court students are asking again this spring will the court become a reality another spring festival is proposed by which enough money will he be rai raided ed to complete this project all sophomores jurd juniors i ors and seniors remember last la st ye years ars entertainment nent spring aprin festival and look forward to an another 0 ther with much expectation the plan has been made to place the court southwest of the building on spring days work will be done by students to prepare the ground for the court if enough money is raised during the year tile the court will be made during the early spring months friday assembly friday and the students emerged with shining faces to the assembly room for it was to be a special one prayer was offered by reed jorgenson two of the boys glee club robert poole and clynn thurston sang the well known song katie did A saxophone solo by reed nelson followed stella quinn gave a very clever reading old italy then two of the well known freshman dancers gae ogden and alta rates bates gave a very original dance this concluded the program and after the announcements by sir mr Bl maughan aughan tile the students adjourned for lunch ba basketball netball suits to be cleaned basketball for this year is over and the suits will not be needed any more until ne next net t year all suits will be cleaned so that they will be in good condition for the basketball season of 26 7 A cageful check has been made of all suits and most of thern them were found to be in good condition after they have been cleaned they will be put away free from dirt moths or any other thing that might harm them this same thing was done to the football suits which gives the R 11 S a spotless array of athletic suits japanese favors add to atmosphere at red and blue ball dainty hair ornaments in the forms of tiny japanese parasols and fans were sold all day friday to the students these theme most appropriate favors came direct from san Francis cos china town it is no wonder that the supply was soon exhausted at the phenomenal price of five cents thursday large japanese fans were sold for ten cents while they lasted together with the other favors and the oriental decorations they added to the anu unu unusual ual atmosphere of the red and blue ball reaper staff holds meeting another interesting reaper staff meeting was held thursday 4 at not all the members of the staff were able to be present on account of so many school activities that are being ing carried on several were on the red and blue co committe minitte in spite of tills this fact however the meeting was a real success and everyone enjoyed it to begin the members sang the staff song kenneth isbell gave a few helpful remarks helen heppler gave a reading mr maughan spoke a few minutes and tina ivie gave a reading after being served with refreshments the staff enjoyed itself playing games boy overcomes Par paralysis alsis de von a sophomore of the R H S who suddenly became paralyzed during the christmas holidays is now back at school while he was at play with his friends one day devon felt a slight pain in his leg no particular attention was paid to it but the next morn mom ing he was ill and had a feeling of deadness in his legs physicians were summoned s but could do nothing and an d lie was i bushed to salt lake city where the best medical aid in the west was obtained the lads legs were completely paralyzed but in spite of their cf efforts fOrtz physicians were unable to discover the cause ile he was sent home to let nature work its course and this together with devons excellent physical condition brought him back to health at last the students and faculty welcome devon back again and are very glad to vee eee him in their ranks R H S faculty has charge of next parent teachers meeting last thursday evening march 5 the officers of the parent teachers association met at the high school and appointed a committee to arrange for their next meeting mr packard vice chairman of the association was appointed chairman of the coan committee attee and the R H S faculty are taking charge of it the three wards ards of this city have each had charge of one program and the faculty of the junior high arid ard grade schools will ill arrange for the final meeting of the year ne next t month after appointing the committee and a attending aten d ing to other business affairs delicious refreshments were served silk worms proe interesting to students students of air packards packard biology class have been studying the silk worm beginning with the egg they studied the different stages of development until the worm was fully developed and had biad woven its coat of silk A small glass box containing eggs and a sample of the worm in each of its stages together with a bunch of raw silk and a spool of a silk thread was obtained and proved extremely interesting as well as very beneficial t to the pupils miss Christen sens girls also gained much knowledge as to the making of silk through it and they with the biology expect to have the book all compiled in a few more days sharks for civics last monday miss simons nine r ichor dock k class cla s spent part of their period in studying sharks with an up to date museum as the school has this study was made much more clear A man eater sharks jaws and fins were taken from the school museum and an i viewed in class seeing is believing and this class now believes in sharks type students do special work second year type students are busy k doing special work for the school they have all the material for the new year book thus saving money for the school they
