Y L INI L I 1 A sister crawford who works with the primaries and sister robinson who takes a great interest in the progress of the relief societies of the church dr milton knudson president of the snow normal college at ephraim ephraem was present also saturday at 10 a m at the south ward church the conference opened with the choir and congregation singing high on the T mountain top elder durfee of zurdora uttered the opening prayer elder beal of richfield who Is s greatly interested la in the seminary work was first speaker miss ivy christensen a graduate of the richfield seminary followed elder beal with a fine talk on the value of a seminary to the young people the north and south ward choirs combined under the leadership of chorister thomas ransom furnished the lenaire musical pro gram for the conference the first anthem rendered at the opening session was sweet Is thy mercy miss rhoda anderson recently returned from the hawaiian islands mission gave an inspiring talk from experiences while in the mission field miss emma durfee of aurora who served as missionary in the north central states based her speech on the spiritual side oi of life dealing with the rewards we receive in id the hereafter according to our works here president lazenby of north sevier stake was elated over the wonderful outpouring of the spirit og 09 god that was manifest at this meeting and hoped those follow in would be equally as good the choir then sang tarry with me with lawrence jones as soloist benediction by A W Bo bohman linian i to seat the large crowds e expected iq at the afternoon meeting the pavilion was made ready with beautiful decorations which in addition to the artistic improvement made on the interior of the building recently was a real home for the saints to gather on this occasion under the auspices of the stake primary bearrd the entire program of this meeting was nas by the boys and girls with sister crawford Craw tord of salt lake to greet aises of sea gull girls who have finished tho the work required of them and a are e ready to take up the lessons in beehive classes at 10 sunday morning the seats were well taken up and tile the conference continued the convention meetings of various stake and ward officers that held separately on oil were continued the general conference was deprived of hearing some of the church representatives until sunday when henry H krolopp a very able and interesting speaker addressed them for a short time on sunday school its advantages and value to young and old principal C A white carried out a lesson demonstration the audience taking part in discussion A sunday school class lesson was given by miss dora brown and her class of the monroe north ward showing how thorough a lesson Is taken through tor for the benefit of all who attends attend one ane of abe pleasing features feature of 0 this meeting was a vocal luet duel by by mrs lindred mildred magleby and elden tuft one of the largest crowds gathered together since the organization of 0 this stake was present at the sunday afternoon meeting president magleby conducting the choir sang though in the outward church below patriarch james I 1 jensen uttered littered an opening prayer then the choir sang how will the church rejoice after tho the usual sustaining of church officers a vocal solo was beautifully rendered by mrs theron hunt sister crawford spoke in the interest of the primary in which she takes a great interest she had enjoyed the mond wonderful erful spirit spilt present among the saints at these meetings sister robinson in a few minutes talk stated she appreciated the generous hospitality of the people here that the spirit of the relief society of which she has hag a special interest was beautiful she also remarked on the lack of spirituality that Is felt the world over henry H gave a wonderful discourse in which he be said in part the mere fact that you have a name in this church will avail you nothing what are you doing and have you anything to be proud of ha have ve you set up a high standard fo and become self righteous or have ne forgotten how we have fallen in the past until some hand has helped us up are we after souls to save that by graciousness and courtesy we may bring them to whatever sphere we will and the forrd will say 1 I trusted you and you filled that trust enter into a place of rest 11 oscar kirkham here in behalf of the church church work with boys and girls took the stand and in a short time made one of the most effective and speeches ever heard in this vicinity he said it is an inspiration to come to this stake to see this most beautiful valley the glory of the fields and the successful crops being harvested also 1 I long tor for the welfare of the boys and girls and in their interest I 1 appeal to them that we do not live in our childrens world young folks are living in the stress of a new world they long for leadership that does the thing nothing is so impressive to them as men and women who reflect in their own lives what you want them most to become faey want a home make it for them with love for service courtesy or a kind hind ly act dr milton knudson who has re bently been chosen as president of the snow normal college a at t E eph 1 h balm was wag next speaker expressing himself as being pleased with the enthusiasm and spirit manifest in the south sevier stake and hoped hope he will be the means of bringing 0 o those who come under his direction at the college the light of knowledge and education both spiritual and otherwise president ZIa magleby globy in his closing remarks expressed his thanks and appreciation to the speakers tho the choir and all who had made any effort to make this the largest and most beyond one of the early pioneers of this county william rowel hicks who die died d at his home here august 8 after a lingering illness he was born in illinois august 28 1851 and came with hs his parents to utah among the early pioneers and was numbered among the indian war veterans having taken active part in the struggles and ana which go with pioneer life he was but a lad when his parents came to sevier valley and upon him fell many responsibilities in aiding and protecting the white people from the indians he has spent the greatest part of his life in the vicinity of monroe and was a good citizen and a sympathetic friend to those in trouble and need he is survived by three sons ralph hicks of lona iona idaho homer and dwight hicks of monroe for daughters mrs eva mrs emma forbush mrs audrrey all of monroe and mrs mary goold of of burley idaho also one brother lafe hicks of bingham funeral services were hold held monday afternoon in the north ward church bishop W 0 conducting the ward choir directed by chorister eli lundgreen furnished appropriate songs chosen by the family among them come ye disconsolate lead kindly kl andly light when first the glorious light of truth and lead me aie gently home thomas ransom and mrs theron hunt sang with feeling some day the silver cords will break speakers jos A smith orson magleby and bishop lundgreen spoke of the deceased life as one of usefulness a sympathetic man one who when a promise was made it ft was kept and wh who set an example for his childr den that was exemplary and honorable flowers were carried to the church by grandchildren of the deceased and the sons acted as pall bearers pageant is presented the relief society assisted by the M 1 I A presented a beautifully staged pageant to the public saturday evening as aa one of the interesting features to the conference held saturday and sunday the entertainment depicted mother love how bow life is guarded before coming into the world how it ft is nurtured loved and cared for by mother from birth to manhood or womanhood the spiritual life was represented in white costumes with tinted stage lights to bring out the effect of the scene physical life was shown in yellow costumes costume the lesson por frayed was beautiful showing how a to mothers others soul was built how she gives to the child through life the spirit of religion health education and ref creation following were some clever that was very well appreciated also ing by three girls in gipsy costumes costume s dancing by two scotch lassies classies which h brought an energetic applause from their audience another favorable feature of the evening was a demonstration from the boy scouts of elsinore demonstrating some ideas in first aid A typical home evening was carried out under the direction i of mr roland with mr and mrs A W magleby and family as the central figures the pageant was ably directed by principal chas A white and was wag eagerly witnessed by over people |
