prisoners from the state prison will this year it is expected be placed at work vork cm an the road from Ail Ander dersons sens ranch to zion national park they will run a new road from the ranch to toquerville the prisoners are also expected to improve the highway into zion national park there connecting with the proposed improvements mentioned in the dispatch from washington given elven above the road crosses north creek where a bridge went out some few years ago and arrangements it is recognized will have to be made for restoring that structure before heavy traffic may proceed to the park without danger of having a schedule disrupted from andersons Ander sens ranch north for several miles a new road is under construction as a federal aid highway project this eliminates several dangerous spots and much rouget going in the route which this section of the salt lake national park high way has followed in the past still further north citizens of washington county are raising by subscription to improve the same thoroughfare ough fare over the black ridge dugway dugnay and up tp the iron county line with these improvements made there will be a fair roadway all the way from this will be somewhere in the vicinity tv of rick ville and will enable a traveler headed for the grand canyon by a driff dral of eight miles to eliminate some thirty miles from the present route which takes him down the virgil river as far as hurricane and then by bv a stiff climb up the hurricane fault the recent utah legislature played a part in the program so far as bryce is concerned by passing a law permitting the state land fand commissioner to lease this school section 0 or r any iny part of it for hotel and tourist camp pu purposes reposes this bill was prepared by the state land er with the approval ot of governor mabey it now awaits the governors signature the state land commissioner already had power to sell this land or to lease it tor for grazing or for mineral purposes it might be that he had power also to lease it tor for other purposes but ln in any event the matter was thought of 0 such groat great importance as to call for or the approval of the legislature as the board of directors of the states business 1 administration in addition the railroad before making the large investment that would be required in such an undertaking wished to have assurance that the tenure of the property might last for a longer term than the customary five or ten years of a grazing lease Cooper cooperation atlon in view said mr jones yester 1 day of the prospective development in the southern part of the state both by reason of the exploitation of scenic attractions and the industrial Indu al development that will come with N ith the establishment of steel nills mills in utah th the e citizens of the i state in my opinion and particularly all cham bers of commerce should cooperate in putting this development over in the biggest way possible it is not a matter of financial assistance so much but people should talk utah and think utah and create such an atmosphere that we will come to realize that in utah we have as good a state as there is in the union with such a spirit prevailing here the tourist and the visitor cannot help but be infected and carry the same message to ills his home industries will undoubtedly follow the opening up of the iron fields for these the chambers of commerce would I 1 believe do well to be on the lookout advance agents agent s of many large concerns have already been or are now on the ground going over the possibilities one of the largest manufacturers of automobiles in the world has been studying the situation through special agents sent here california cities are already making preparations for the indu industrial s trial development and their newspapers are asserting that the greatest event in the industrial development of the entire pacific coast is the opening up of the iron deposits of utah and a study of the underlying conditions will reveal no reason why this should not be so |
