Show CONTRACTORS START ROAD CONSTRUCTION Active work on building the graveled gra-veled and oiled mulch highway between be-tween Gunnison and the Nine-Mile Nine-Mile reservoir, known as Federal Aid Project 91-D. was started with a vim Monday morning with a big crew of men and horses. Young & Ogden, the Richfield contractors contrac-tors who secured the pob, intend to rush work with all possible speed. Starting 20 men and an equal number of horses, it was announced an-nounced by L. A. Young, who is supervising the work, that thin would be doubled by the end uf the week. Local men are being employed and the policy of tho contractors will be to carry out this would be doubled by the end of the week. The contract calls for approximately approxi-mately four and a quarter milts Jf grading and oiling and according accord-ing to stipulations in the agreement agree-ment with the state road commission, commis-sion, the work must be completed by not later than July 11th. Removing . and reinstalling the city pipe line, which courses along the proposed cut-off, is now being carried out and some time next week it is believed this task will have been completed. Grading was started Monday at the bottom of Nine-Mile hill, commonly known as "Standpat curve," and likely work will be carried from that end of the project to the point connecting' con-necting' with the oiled road just north of Gunnison. The contracting con-tracting company is planning to bring in some of the heavy machinery ma-chinery owned by them, and assemble as-semble it for work on the Gunnison Nine-Mile project. A large Caterpillar Cat-erpillar tractor, rock crusher and other necessary equipment will be on the grounds within a short time. The Young & Ogden contract calls for grading and graveling, building of a new bridge, correcting correct-ing the city pipe line, and in fact to complete the job entirely. The changing of the course of the San-pitch San-pitch river, west of the curve, is included in the work. After the preliminary work has been started, Mr. Young told a News representative, just as many workmen as possible will be employed em-ployed and local workmen will be given the preference.
