Show Close Watching Needed by Tires During Winter Winter time is a hard period for the tires. Due to changing temperatures, standing in the freezing cold part of the time, and kept in a warm garage at others, even tiny cuts in the tread are more apt to develop into big holes than in summer. ' Particles of ice and snow will lodge in the little cuts, and when the car Is put in a warmer place, .this ice thaws, wetting the fabric and in time leading to a gradual disintegration of fabric and tread. When the moisture here next freezes it serves to do further damage. Thus the alternate thawing and freezing develop small tread cuts into serious tire maladies. It is best to fill up ail cuts with tire dough, keeping out water as much as possible. There are several excellent preparations on the market to heal tread cuts, and If applied strictly according ac-cording to direction, the cuts are effectively effec-tively sealed against the deleterious effects of winter driving over wet and 1 icy pavements. j |
