Washington A schoolhouse at La-Plata, La-Plata, Md., was blown down during a violent windstorm which struck the vicinity of Washing Tuesday. He-ports He-ports of caauallies were conflicting. A telephone operator said she believed be-lieved there were no fatalities, but a call from a hotel there said reports re-ports were current that a score of children had lost their lives. A number of private dwellings also were demolished and the death of one man in one of these was definitely established. Seventy-five school children chil-dren were in the schoolhouse when the storm descended upon the town. LaPlata is thirty miles from Washington. Wash-ington. Automobiles left here on receipt re-ceipt of news of the storm to carry relief and to determine whether there had been loss of life. Providence hospital here was notified noti-fied that a number of the children were being transferred to that institution. insti-tution. Whether there were any deaths among these could not at once be determined, owing to the fact that the children were immediately loaded Into ambulances on being taken from the wreckage. |
