Show FATHERS' AND SONS' OUTING AT NEBO IS GREAT SUCCESS hi GUI ! EMERY CO. 1 : IES HEft Work ended Saturday July ; 21st, on the Huntington can-yon can-yon forest road project in the amount of the funds which ' were available for this season, j An appropriation of $10,000 was made by the federal forestry fores-try department for this enterprise; enter-prise; in 1922 on agreement , with Huntington citizens to i furnish an additional $5000 in labor. On that basis approximately approxi-mately $9000 of the aggregate $15,000 was spent last summer and with the completion of the project to its present extent last Saturday the road is in excellent ex-cellent condition for automobile automo-bile travel. J It extends to the forks in the I canyon, a distance of twenty miles from Huntington, and a 'stretch of but ten miles remains re-mains to be constructed to j complete the highway over the mountain by this route, as a jroad has been maintained fo'-years fo'-years from Fairview to the .coal beds in the headwater re-'gion re-'gion of the Huntington creek. I When this link has been completed com-pleted an important traffic road will be in extent to connect con-nect eastern Utah with San-! San-! pete and Salt Lake City, as Fairview, the terminal of the road on the Sanpete side, is but twelve miles off a direct line from Huntington to the state capitol. ' At a recent meeting of the Huntington Commercial club (the prospect of securing another an-other appropriation to finish the road as outlinel was considered consid-ered and a special committee was appointed to confer with Ranger Byron Howard to the end of obtaining such aid and to make application for whatever what-ever amount is needed. Various appropriations have been made previously for this project, but this is the first time it has reached beyond the surveying stage. The work has been under the supervision of Ranger Howard, with M. S. Black in direct charge. , There is every reason to believe be-lieve that assistance may be secured from State and Feder al aid to apply on this road between be-tween Fairview and Thistle if the people of Fairview. Mount Plasant and Spring City will awake themselves from their beds of slumber and cooperate with the people of Emery County in securing a good road to the State Capitol. Emery County will be brought 17 miles closer to Salt Lake City when this automobile automo-bile road is completed. It will also cut the time one hour less in making the trip. Moroni people, especially the truck gardeners, will be (Continued on last page) lIIIOIlIIlBlIlinBBIl Mi? MILES CLOSER i i (Continued from first page.) greatly benefited by this road ; as it will give them a better connection with their markets j in the east. . 1 It has' been suggested that a j representation of Fairview, Mt i Pleasant and Spring City meet together soon and send a delegation dele-gation to Emery County and let Emery know that we are i with them whole heartedly for : SEIIIBISIIimiEBlBRI a direct passable route to Salt Lake City. When this automobile road is completed through these most wonderful of all mountains moun-tains we can invite the' world to come and see our mountain scenery with its magnificent granduer which excells all the rest. I Meet our splendid people and learn to love our valleys. |
