Show II. I. A. CONTESTS HELD HERE MAT 1 Mt. Pleasant North ward scoring 87 .points was the winner In the M. I. A. day contests, held In Mt. Pleasant Pleas-ant Saturday,. Moroni East ward scoied next with 47 points and Mt. Pleasant South ward scored third with 36 points. The contests were well attended and entrants were represented re-presented from nearly every ward In the stake. In the public speaking contest, Miss Vivian Andersen of Moroni East ward won first place. Her subject was "Why Read the Bible". Second place was awarded to Miss Ethel Rasmussen of Mt. Pleasant North ward on "Tint Your Own Sky". Miss Fern Puzey of Spring City was third Her subject was "The Hereafter" In the Young Men's public speaking contest Howard Blackham of Moroni East ward won first place on "Miracles," and Carl ,E. Nielsen of Fairview South ward won second place. His, subject was "The Three Degrees of Glory." Moyle Mills of Mt. Pleasant North ward won .third place on "Go On You Hypocrite, Go On." Pleasant, South ward, fourth; Male chorus, Moroni East ward; male qiuarttet, Fairview North ward, tenoir solo, Joseph Robertsen, Fountain Green; baritone solo, Ran-da'Jl Ran-da'Jl Christensen,' Fountain Green; saxophone solo, Gorden Staner, Mt' pleasant North ward; double mixed quarttet, Mt. Pleasant, North ward: Junior and Bee hive girls chorus, Mt. Pleasant, North ward. Fairview South ward won first place in tihe dirama contest. They presented the play "The Unequal Yoke" by Blanche Kendall Me Kay. Mt. Pleasant North ward won first place in the dancing contests featuring featur-ing the LanceTs quadrille. Miss Zina Nielsen of Mt. Pleasant North ward won first place in the retold re-told stories contest and Miss Grace Simpson, won first place in the declamations. de-clamations. Nielsen; Music Professo,r Fred Fjeldstod of Snow-College Snow-College Ephraim, R. F. Millet of Fountain Green and W. H. Terry; retold stories, Mrs. H. G. Ericksen, Mrs. Marjorio M. Brom, and Miss Lucy Phillips, drama, Mrs. F. J. Nielsen, Miss L'uicy Phil'lips and De-Mar De-Mar Andersen; dancing, Miss Esther Eggertsen of the B. Y. U. at Pinovo. Ml wiunen were heard at a public meeting in the afternoon. The day festivities closed with a dance in Armory Hall under the direction of the stake recreation committee. The M. J. A. district contest feat-uing feat-uing the winners from North Sanpete South Sa.vpe.te, and Gunnison Stakes will be held in Mt. Pleasant Tuesday May 17th. |
