Show OIL TANK BLAST SHAKES UP CITY LARGE UNDERGROUND VAULT EXPLODES AS FESULT OF COMBUSTION Fears Felt for Safety of Nearby Homes; Loss Will Run Into Many Thousands of Dollars San Pedro, Cal. A large underground under-ground oil tank owned by the General Petroleum company exploded here Friday morning at 9:2o oclock. The blast was caused by spontaneous combustion com-bustion and shook the entire city. Approximately one million barrels of oil is burning. Fears for the safety of three adjoining ad-joining tanks and a number of nearby near-by homes are felt as the tank shows signs of boiling, over and running down the hillside. The tank is located lo-cated at Twenty-eighth and Gaffey streets. Early reports declare the loss will reach several hundred thousand dollars dol-lars and may be larger if other tanks are ignited. The burning tank is directly beneath Fort McArhur. The military post, however, is not In danger. All of the fighting apparatus in the harbor district was summoned to the scene.
