Show FERGUSON FACES LOSS OF RIGHTS FORMER GOVERNOR OF TEXAS IS AGAIN IN LIMELIGHT OF STATE LEGISLATURE Amnesty Law Now Before Governor Dan Moody Is Repealed and Political Po-litical Rights' are Threatened Austin. Texas The bill repealing the amnesty measure, passed two years ago in behalf of former Governor Gover-nor James B. Ferguson, Impeached governor of 1917, has been finally passed pass-ed by the house of representatives. It now goes to Governor Dan Moody for his signature, the measure having passed the Benate several days ago. The vote was 78 to 25. Proponents of the repealing mea-Bure, mea-Bure, of which Senator Tom Love of Dallas was the author, executed a surprise sur-prise move, calling up the measure which was the subject of a bitter fight before the engrossment early in the day; and it passed with about the same majority. The amnesty bill, as passed by the thirty-ninth legislature, when Governor Gover-nor Miriam A. Ferguson, wife of James E. Ferguson, was. in office, was intended in-tended to restore Ferguson to his former political status, entitling him to hold office despite his impeachment of 1917. Governor Moody, while attorney gen eral, held that the amnesty bill was unconstitutional. The "repealer" was the subject of the bitterest fight during the present fortieth legislature, and a small minority, min-ority, the remnants of Ferguson's adherents ad-herents of two years ago, sought delay de-lay in efforts to kill the measure, but vote was forced and the measure was passed. |
