Show COAL STRIKE SEEMS INEVITABLE Illinois Operators Only Ones to Accept Cleveland Meeting Plan Chicago A strike of bituminous coal miners April First, seemed inevitable, in-evitable, Thursday. Only government intervention or a split in the ranks of the union and acceptance ac-ceptance of a lower scale can avert the walkout, it is believed. The meeting called for Cleveland on March 2, between mineworkers and operators will not be held, according to general opinion. Illinois operators are the only ones who have accepted the invitation of President John L. Lewis to the Cleveland meeting, but they qualify their acceptance with the statement "If the law allows." |
