Show M FACTORY BEGINS OPERA-TIQNSTHIS OPERA-TIQNSTHIS WEEK The farmer is about the most appreciative ap-preciative man in the valley on account of the splendid weather conditions con-ditions which no; prevail. r The People's Sugar Company had given ofders to the farmers. of Sanpete to begin harvesting their beets and last Monday morning nearly every farmer in the valley was out in the beet fields 'digging su.gar beets. The crops this season are excep-' tionally good and farmers anticipate s bounteous harvest. There is every reason to believe that twice as many sugar beets will be grown in Sanpete Valley this year as was grown last. The beets are much better and the itreace is larger. I The big factory started its operations oper-ations last Monday and the first strike of sugar was made Wednesday The quality of sugar is the best. The percentage of sugar in the beets this year is about two per cent higher high-er than it was last season and the company feels very much encouraged in the outlook for the success o the season, provided the sugar market mar-ket is good. Right at the present time the market is declining very rapidly but there are hopes maintained main-tained that it will soon be better. This year the factory is slicing faster than they were able to do last season and it is believed that the big mill will soon be run to capacity. An increase of 2,508,000 tons in the beet crop of the west is repor?d by M. M. Justin of the federal b'lreau of crop estimates. In 1919 the total crop was 6,421,000. toi.s as against 8,929,000 tons for 1920. About 400,000 tons of dry beet pulp will be realized out of this product, Mr Justin says which will be 45 per cent more than last year. "Last year the domestic supply of beet pulp was augmented." continued contin-ued Mr. Justin, '-'by importations from Holland and southern Europe. This year the foreign crop of sugar beets will be from 30 to 35 per cent larger than last year. The High Schools of this district will close this week 'end to permit tbe stu'dents to enter the beet fields sod aid the farmers and their own familes in harvesting the great su-Sar su-Sar crop. |
