They beeorne badly I frightened when a man approaches j nenrer thnn two or three rods of them ; The Russians eiaim that by meUi'Mls of comparative anatomy and In oilier j ways they have proved that the (in'r.l 1 desert horse is a distinct Fper-ies (.,' I the genus horse. Most naiuraiis.'s have until now believed that (he trui wild horses with an unbroken line of wild ancestry were extinct. It Is the general opinion that-th domestic horse of today was mainly derived from three wild species, which have been named the Rlcppe, forest and plateau varieties. The gobl horse Is a representative of the steppe variety. This horse In Its wild stats lives In the level districts and roes at night to the pasture lands a'nrl drinking places.
